1. What is the Fredericksburg Racquet Center?
The Fredericksburg Racquet Center is a collaborative project between the City of Fredericksburg and the Fredericksburg Tennis Center Foundation. This community-driven, nonprofit initiative is designed to expand and enhance racquet sports opportunities in Fredericksburg and throughout the surrounding Hill Country. The project directly addresses Fredericksburg’s top three identified recreational needs: pickleball courts, tennis courts, and walking trails.
More than just a sports facility, the center will serve as a welcoming destination for tennis, pickleball, movement, and connection — bringing together people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels in a vibrant and active environment.
2. Where will the Racquet Center be located?
The center will be located in the 500 block of Friendship Lane in Fredericksburg, offering a central, accessible location for residents, families, and visitors.
3. Who is the Racquet Center for?
Everyone. The Racquet Center is a public access facility, designed for beginners and seasoned players alike, children and adults, families, individuals, and multi-generational households. Whether you’re new to racquet sports or have played your whole life, you’ll belong here.
4. What sports and amenities will the center include?
The Racquet Center will feature indoor and outdoor tennis and pickleball courts, a walking trail, playground, and thoughtful community centered amenities that support gathering, instruction, and community use. Programming will include lessons, clinics, leagues, tournaments and special events.
5. Is this a private club or open to the public?
The Racquet Center is a public, non-profit facility, and open to the public, similar to Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course and Create Healthy Wellness Center. The Racquet Center welcomes both members and non-members. Designed to serve the entire community, the center will be open to the public while offering optional, affordable memberships that provide added convenience and value for frequent players.
6. How is the Racquet Center being funded?
This is a true community effort. As a 501c3, The Fredericksburg Tennis Center Foundation provides funding for the Fredericksburg Racquet Center project through a combination of philanthropic support, community gifts, partnerships, and business and individual donations. Every contribution—large or small—helps bring the vision to life.
7. Why is fundraising needed?
Philanthropy allows The Fredericksburg Tennis Center Foundation to spearhead the construction of the community racquet facility with intention: creating quality facilities, expanding access, supporting youth programming, and ensuring the center serves the community for generations to come.
8. When will the Racquet Center open?
The project is currently moving through development and fundraising phases, with plans to break ground in the Spring of 2026. We are getting closer to our goal of $7,000,000 for Phase One of the construction plan. Visit our Let’s Rally capital campaign for updates.
